psorophora_coluCommonly referred to as the "Dark rice field mosquito". It is distinguished by its dark and silver coloring. It prefers livestock and can be found in parts of the county with pastures and livestock. When pastures are flooded large numbers similar to salt marsh mosquitoes can be seen hatching off. 

Larval habitat: Breeds in rice fields and grass fields. Large pastures that are subject to flooding are prime breeding sites. 

Adult habitat: Found in fields, yards, and some wooded areas. 

Biting activity: Their biting activity is anytime during the day when disturbed but prefer the early morning or late afternoon.

Flight range: up to 10 miles
