Our Mission

To timely facilitate probable cause and bond settings (Statue 15.17 and 26.04) as well as bond review hearings by the magistrate courts.

Magistrate Court 

Magistrate court is held two times a day, AM and PM, in the Galveston County Jail. During court  the following will be present: Magistrate, magistrate clerk(s), state and public defender.

Presentation before a magistrate takes place no longer than 24 hours after the person is arrested in Galveston County. 

Individuals not able to post their monetary conditions of bond will be reviewed within 12 hours of their initial hearing.

Persons eligible to attend magistrate court:

  • Article 14.06 states that peace officers must take the accused before a magistrate when a warrantless arrest (on-view) is made pursuant to one of the exceptions to the warrant requirement.
  • Article 15.17 requires individuals arrested pursuant to a warrant be brought before a magistrate.
