Coupons were recently mailed to senior, disabled person, disabled veteran and disaster quarter installment participants for 2023 property taxes.  Please note the second quarter installment payment is due April 1, third quarter is May 31 and final quarter due date July 31.  Avoid hefty penalty and interest and make payments on time or contact our office to discuss your options with a Property Tax Specialist by calling 409-766-2481.  

Only days remain for timely payment of 2023 property taxes and the Galveston County Tax Office hopes to make it easy for you to check that chore off the “to do” list.

One-fourth installment payment option is available to every person this year due to Governor Disaster Declarations in the County.  Divide amount by four and submit first payment by January 31st.  The remaining installments will be due April 1, May 31, and July 31 (coupons with payment envelopes will be mailed in March as a reminder).

February 5^th is the deadline to register to vote in the March 2024 Primary elections.  It is also the last day to update name and address information.  Changes may be made by completing a new voter application or online at https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/sos/SOSACManager.   To use the online portal, you will need your current drivers license or Texas identification card, social security number and VUID (voter unique identifier).

When voters approved Proposition 4 in November, not only did they secure school property tax reductions (through increased homestead exemption, continuation of State funding of reduced school tax rates through compression, resetting of tax ceilings for seniors and the disabled and creation of a pilot program establishing a 20% “circuit breaker” or appraisal cap on all real properties valued at $5M or less) – they also approved electing three county appraisal district directors in counties of 75,000 or more.  Galveston County is one of those counties!

October 10^th is the deadline to register to vote in November elections.  It is also the last day to update name and address information.  Voter registration applications are available at all Galveston County Tax Office locations, online at www.galcotax.com under the Voter Registration Information link or contact the Voter Registration Department toll free at 1-888-976-2280 and request that an application be emailed or mailed to you. 

County Tax Office Eminent Deadline for Emailed Tax Statements

The deadline to sign up to receive a 2023 property tax statement via electronic mail (email) is September 15^th.  Visit the GCTO website at www.galcotax.com and click the large red button to search for your account(s).  At the account homepage, scroll to the bottom and click on Register to Receive Electronic Tax Statements.  This feature is especially beneficial for anyone who recently purchased a property or refinanced.  Many lenders request tax statements midsummer so property owners who either paid off a loan or refinanced may not receive a tax statement without taking advantage of this option.

2022 GCTO Driven to Serve Gold QPA Recipient

Galveston and Montgomery County Tax Offices have earned the TxDMV Goal Performance Award for 2021, placing them in the top 1% of 254 Texas Counties.  Only 5 counties have achieved Gold recognition since the program began.
