Victim Assistance Division

Victim Assistance Division is available to help crime victims understand how the criminal justice system works, and alleviate any confusion. Devoted staff members will answer any questions regarding the progress of a case, and help with the following:

Victim impact statement

Victim impact statements are a detailed account of the emotional, physical, and financial effects of a crime on the victim and family members. Victim Assistance Division will provide this form, and, if desired, assist in completing it.

Crime victim compensation fund

Victims may receive help in paying certain bills that are incurred as a result of a crime. Victim Assistance Division can explain the requirements for such compensation. If requirements are met, the DA’s office will assist in preparing application to the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.

Social-service agencies

There are many social-service agencies ready to assist victims of crime. Victim Assistance Division can put victims in contact with the right agencies to help.

Accompany victim at court

When a victim must make a court appearance, someone from the Victim Assistance Division will be available to accompany them.  Please ask for assistance.
